How long should I wait before seeding a lawn after I applied a pre-emergent herbicide?

If you applied a pre-emergent crabgrass preventer herbicide in the spring, you will need to wait until the fall to seed desirable grasses. There are two reasons for this. The fall is the best time of the year to seed cool-season grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue. Additionally, the herbicide is designed to prevent weeds from the time it is applied in the spring through mid- to late-summer. It will kill seedling weeds and desirable grasses alike during its effective period. When considering applying a pesticide to your property, thoroughly read the product label before you buy.
