Can I apply a pre-emergent herbicide immediately after lawn grass establishment?

Certain pre-emergent herbicides can be detrimental to plant roots and should only be used on mature stands of turf. A good rule of thumb is to wait until the turf has been mowed twice before applying any type of herbicide.
