Advertisements for zoysiagrass are commonly found in magazines and newspapers stating several advantages over commonly used grasses in the area. While some of these claims may be true, zoysiagrass is not well adapted for home lawn use in zones 6 & 7. It is difficult to mow with a rotary mower, can develop severe thatch problems, is extremely slow to establish, and may eventually grow into a neighbor's lawn or into a flower bed. Zoysiagrass is a warm-season turf, meaning that it will go dormant during the late fall through late spring, leaving you with a brown lawn for approximately 6 months of the year.
