Can watering increase lawn weed problems?

The best defense against weeds is to maintain dense, healthy turf, and proper lawn irrigation is often necessary. However, some weeds, such as yellow nutsedge and creeping bentgrass, thrive in wet areas and will sometimes outcompete the desirable grass.
