Can irrigating a lawn damage woody and herbaceous ornamentals?

Last Updated: January 05, 2012

Diseases such as phytophthora root rot and pythium can be encouraged by over watering. Plants such as Taxus, junipers, azaleas, rhododendrons, Japanese hollies, hemlock, dogwood, geraniums, chrysanthemums, and others can be damaged by over watering. Lawns and ornamentals often have different watering requirements, so it is best to set up separate irrigation zones.
