Does rolling my lawn help or hurt the grass?

Rolling is not considered a regular maintenance practice. It can be useful for firming a loose seedbed after seeds are broadcast, or pressing down mole runs and mounds left by earthworms and night crawlers. Rolling wet, heavy clay soils will cause soil compaction and decrease soil aeration.
