What type of cool season sod is best?

Due to the growth habits of grass species, some grasses will produce sod that transplants better than others. Kentucky bluegrass produces excellent sod that is easy to handle. Perennial ryegrass and turf-type tall fescue will not produce good sod unless grown on synthetic netting. Good sod is lightweight and does not tear apart easily. Keep in mind that sod is perishable and should not remain stacked for more than 36 hours. Sod should be thoroughly saturated immediately after it is installed and watered daily until rooting occurs.
