A soil test is the only way to determine the amount of lime needed for your lawn. Lime (calcium carbonate) has a direct effect on soil pH. Proper soil pH is important for the availability of nutrients for the plant. Soil pH measures the acidity and alkalinity of the soil, with a pH of 7 considered neutral. The optimum pH for your turfgrass will depend on the type of grass you plant. Most turfgrass species require slightly acid soils.
