Maintaining and discussing a family budget teaches children that "money really doesn't grow on trees." Teaching them early about money management will likely help them want to create their own budget to follow.

Many children get an allowance each week or month. Teaching your children that if they want to purchase something they want, then they have to pay for it out of their allowance. They will learn to save their money until they have enough. This also teaches them responsibility. They will have a better understanding when they have a job, and part of their money goes toward partial payment for a car, car insurance, and gas.
