Don’t assume that a fire truck will be parked in your driveway and firefighters will be actively defending your home if a wildfire approaches. During a major wildfire, it is unlikely there will be firefighting resources available to defend every home. Even with adequate resources, some wildfires may be so intense that there may be little that firefighters can do to prevent a house from burning. The key is to reduce fire intensity as a wildfire nears the house and to eliminate materials that can be easily ignited by embers. This can be accomplished by properly managing the vegetation and other landscape features surrounding your home.
