Here are some tips to prevent insects from entering:

  1. Have proper seals and sweeps on doors and windows.
  2. Reduce organic debris around the foundation.
  3. Change outside lights around doorways and flood lights to amber or yellow bug lights.
  4. When bringing in plants for the winter, you need to make sure to inspect for insects using the plant as a habitat and remove such insects before bringing the plant inside.

If you need to use chemical controls on the exterior of a home you can use a fast acting residual insecticide. These insecticides can be applied in a target band around windows, doors, eaves, attic vents and any other entry point when insects are active. When using insecticides make sure that you read and follow the label instructions and properly protect yourself, children or any animals in the environment being treated.
