I am buying a home and asked for a two-day extension on the earnest deposit. The broker said he would send papers right over to sign but never did. Instead he sold the house to a higher bidder. What are my options?

Real estate agents and brokers are paid by home sellers and have an obligation to get the highest price and/or best contract terms possible for their clients (sellers). They have no obligation to act on behalf of home buyers even though they appear very friendly and helpful and buyers may be in frequent contact with brokers during the home search and selection process. Because it appears that your conversation with the broker was verbal, it might be difficult to prove that the broker granted you an extension to produce an earnest money deposit. Nevertheless, if you want to pursue a complaint, you could contact an attorney and/or the local Board of Realtors for information and advice.
