I want to feed birds. What type of feeder and food is best?

That will depend on the species of birds that are found in your area and the species that you want to attract to your yard. For example, black oil sunflower seeds are favored by many species of birds and can be offered in tube feeders, hopper feeders, or tray feeders. Suet is attractive to woodpeckers and chickadees. Fresh fruit appeals to orioles. Nectar is a sure way to have hummingbirds visit you.
