Ornamental grasses are wonderful additions to a garden. They require very little care and will often thrive in hot, dry sites where few plants can grow. Many remain attractive through the winter, adding both color and architectural interest to the winter landscape. Cut back ornamental grasses to a height of 6 to 8 inches after they have gone dormant in fall. The grass is dormant when it loses its green color. To preserve winter interest, you may delay this trimming until early spring. Just remember to cut grasses back before new growth begins.
