State and federal regulations do not require vaccination against brucellosis for interstate movement of breeding bull calves, feeder bull calves, feeder castrated bull calves (steers), breeding adult bulls, and feeder heifers, whereas breeding heifer calves, heifers, and cows are required to have been previously vaccinated at four to 12 months of age for interstate movements if leaving or entering a state not free of bovine brucellosis, such as Texas. For this same movement, a negative test for brucellosis is required for breeding bulls, heifers, and cows over 18 months of age. Bull and heifer calves under 18 months of age, in addition to steers of any age, are exempt from the test requirement. A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection is required for all female and male cattle of any age.
