I have two confirmed cases of calves that have blackleg. Would it be beneficial to mass medicate the rest of the calves with penicillin since I have already vaccinated all the calves?

Prophylactic treatment with penicillin along with vaccinations of the disease at a two-week interval is a recommendation in outbreaks to kill the bacteria that are possibly active in the muscles and potentially killing more calves. However, the stress of exertion from working the calves may trigger recrudescence of blackleg latent, non-active infections and cause deaths from new active bacteria. Consult your private veterinarian on the appropriate route for your particular situation.
