Cattle that exhibit a sudden onset of lameness, usually in one foot but sometimes in more than just one foot, might suffer from foot rot. The affected foot may appear swollen, and non-pigmented skin of the coronary band is red and tender. The animal might exhibit open ulcers between the toes cover, accompanied by a very rotten odor. Severe cases result in infection of the coffin joint, with migration of infection through tracts that break out on the surface of the skin and drain pus above the coronary band. Consult your veterinarian on specific diagnosis as well as possible treatment options.
