First and foremost, child care providers can play an important role in helping parents understand the importance of being involved in their child's care. Providers can invite parents to participate in various ways. Parents can participate as resources, teachers, volunteers, trained/paid assistants, participants in the decision-making process, and/or as program advocates. Child care providers can encourage parent involvement by creating a monthly newsletter, arranging social events for the family, encouraging informal discussions when parents are in the child care setting, letting families know that their help is needed, and welcoming their presence in the child care setting anytime.
