Drywood termites have three major veins in front of the wing. Subterranean termites have two major veins in front of the wing. Start counting the number of veins about 1/3 of the length down the wing from the point of attachment to the body. Termite wings often curl at the edges if they are not in alcohol. It is important to lay the wing completely flat when attempting to determine whether there are two or more veins.
