Prevention is always the best policy when dealing with urinary calculi. You should ensure proper calcium to phosphorus ratios (2:1) in your feed. Remember, a corn-based ration is much better than milo. Ammonium chloride should be added in the feed at a rate of 10 to 20 lb/ton. Clean, fresh, cool water is a must and should always be available to the goat. It is recommended that bucks be given more than a half-pound of grain supplement per head per day to reduce the incidence of urinary calculi. Consult your veterinarian for additional information.
