In order for a newborn calf to develop rigor mortis, it must have taken a breath. If the animal has not breathed before dying, then rigor mortis will not be present. If the newborn has breathed during or after birthing, then rigor mortis will be evident. Contact your local veterinarian if you have any further questions.
