If during construction,  roots are cut back to any extent, prune trees to compensate for the root loss. Fertilize in spring, and don't let the tree suffer during periods of no rain. A key element is to protect the roots. See if the authorities will put barriers around the "drip zone" of the tree to keep unnecessary traffic and parking from compacting the ground. Don't store any chemicals under the trees. Have an arborist available to evaluate damage. Trees can recover from a great deal of damage if the roots can be protected.
