Why does the outer leaves of my cabbage plants develop yellow lesions with downy growth underneath?

This is downy mildew (Peronospora parasitica) and can be controlled with fungicide sprays beginning at the first sign of the disease. Contact your local Extension office for fungicide recommendations and apply according to label directions.
