Do I need to refrigerate lettuce seed before planting it in the garden?

Although many people believe this, refrigeration is not necessary for lettuce germination. Lettuce should be planted in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked. For fall planting, temperatures should average below 80 degrees F to assure maximum germination and growth of young seedlings.
