Leaf burn, or scorch, generally indicates root injury, which is quite often caused by heavy amounts of fertilizer applied too close to the roots. Such injury may result in browning and dieback of the ends and margins of the leaves. Other possible causes are root injury caused by nematodes, insects, and physical injury by cultivation. Overwatering, underwatering, and diseases might also cause leaf-tip burn.
