I have large translucent areas on my tomato fruit. What's going on?

This is an environmental problem. The translucent areas are sun scalds. Heat from direct intense sunlight destroys the color pigments of the tomato. Sunscald usually occurs on plants that have lost many of their leaves to disease and/or insects. Sunscald damage does not make the tomato inedible but it does reduce the amount of usable fruit. Work to keep your plants healthy and fully leaved.
