Can you use sawdust in composting?

Yes. It is best to mix sawdust with other products being composted, as well as aged sawdust. Sawdust has a very high carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, so additional nitrogenous materials will be needed to help break it down.  Examples of high nitrogen material for composting are:  grass clippings, vegetable scraps, and live stock manures.  For more information on how to and what to compost, visit the eXtension web site:  Soils and Composting: Composting.
