How do you build a raised bed, and what soil amendments should be used?

When building a raised bed garden, you can use landscape timbers, haydite blocks, bricks, stone, metal borders, etc., to retain raised earth.  Add to your existing soil a minimum of one-third composted materials and till it in.  There may be some settling the first year and you will need to top off your garden.
