Also called Flame-of-the-Woods, Ixora is a tropical plant that is not winter hardy if temperatures fall below freezing.
Plants are mounded in form and bloom spring through fall, yielding dense flat-topped to globular clusters of flowers in red, yellow, yellow-orange, buff, and white. Ixoras are used for hedges and as container specimens in tropical areas, and are tolerant of salt spray. Ixoras thrive in rich, well-drained soils that are slightly acid. For maximum bloom, plant in full sun. Frequent applications of fertilizer throughout the growing season are beneficial. Propagation is from cuttings.
Ixoras do best in at least four hours of direct sunlight a day, night temperatures of 60 degrees F to 65 degrees F, and day temperatures of 70 degrees F or higher.
