I was given two of the dwarf Cherry Surprise tomato plants. How large will these "small" plants become, and if I grow them on the patio, how large should the containers be?

If grown in a whiskey barrel-size container in potting mix that has been mixed with the correct (according to label instructions) amount of a slow-release fertilizer and watered with a water-soluble fertilizer, the plants should get at least 4 feet tall and produce an abundance of golf ball- to tennis ball-size fruit. Containers should be no smaller than 5 gallons - the larger the container, the better. You will water less often with a large container because the greater volume of soil has a greater water-holding capacity. You will avoid plant stress due to lack of water, and the plant will produce larger and better quality Cherry Surprise fruit. Be sure that the container you select has adequate drainage.
