We planted a Bradford pear last weekend and the leaves are turning brown. Is this normal? If not what should we do about it?

It is not uncommon to lose a few leaves from transplant shock and root damage when the tree is planted. Keep the tree moist but not overly wet. The tree should stabilize in about a week. Be careful not to overwater the tree as too much water causes the same symptoms as not enough water. Plants need 1 inch of water once a week through rain or irrigation.
