Is late winter (February) the time to apply preventive weed chemicals in Texas? Or should we wait till we have the last freeze? Will it work if we apply it now and we happen to have another freeze?

Mid-February is the normally recommended date in Texas for the application of preemergent herbicides to prevent the germination of the warm-season annual weeds. If there is abnormally warm temperatures before February, some weed seed may germinate. Even so, go ahead and apply the herbicide as usual. A freeze, should it happen, will not have any effect on the effectiveness of the herbicide.
