Are there vegetables that can be planted in mid-June for a summer garden that will survive the San Antonio summer heat? Is there a good tomato that will last through the summer?

Okra and southern peas (black-eyed peas) can still be planted. Most tomato plants will last through the summer, but none will produce many quality fruits. It is best to wait until late July through mid-August to make a planting for fall production in November. The fastest-maturing, heat-setting variety on the market is Surefire. Contact your local Cooperative Extension office for a vegetable planting guide.
