I have dark red peonies that get to be about 16 inches tall and then do nothing. My white peonies and pink peonies do really well and are planted in the same area. Why won't the red ones get bigger and bloom?

Peonies, as most plants, have superior selections (varieties) that perform better than others. The color red in nature seems to produce weaker plants than some of the other colors. However, everyone wants red and everyone tries to make it "keep up" with the naturally vigorous selections. If you are treating all plants the same and having luck with all other colors and varieties, the problem has to be in the plant's genetics; it's not your fault.
