How can I store fresh pears a long time without canning them?

The key is not trying to store fully ripe fruit. Ripe pears should be stored at 31 to 32 degrees F and 90 to 95% humidity. Pick fruit before it reaches maturity, when it is green and firm. Store in flat boxes. You can wrap each fruit in tissue paper or even newspaper. If you have a lot of fruit, this may not be practical. I would think you could store them for two to three months. Check often to remove spoiled fruit.
