There is a compound available with the active ingredient ethephon that stops fruit production in many types of flowering trees. The compound is sprayed on the tree during or just after bloom. All parts of the tree must be covered with the spray. If your tree is large, you may require the services of a certified arborist to apply the spray. Contact your local nursery or garden center regarding the availability of this material in your area and check the label to ensure that the plant you are treating is listed. Always follow label directions when applying chemicals.
