I have lots of grapes, and I wonder whether I should cover them with a net so birds/animals don't eat them. If so, when should I cover them?

Cover them with a net only after you observe that they are eating your grapes. Don't delay, however, as birds can do a lot of damage very quickly. Act as soon as you begin to see bird damage activity. Bird damage will usually happen as the grape berries begin to sweeten. Be aware that these nets can also entrap birds. If you use netting, monitor your grapes daily.
