Are peaches restricted to the south or can they be grown in northern climates?

Sadly, peach trees are not hardy in northern climates. Even if they survive the winter, the blossoms are nipped by late frosts and won't bear fruit. On the other hand, there is always someone willing to push the limits, and there are stories about people successfully growing peaches in northern climates. These examples are rare, however. For a peach crop, you should be gardening in hardiness Zones 6 through 8.
