I want a crabapple tree that is hardy for Zone 3, that drops its fruit, and is disease resistant (Red Cedar are nearby). It would be for the deer to feed on.

The cold-hardiness of the crabapple variety "Pink Spire" is rated to -50°F, which makes it a good choice for northern Minnesota and beyond. The fruit does not persist into winter. "Indian Magi" is less hardy at -30°F. While its fruit does not persist into winter, it tends to bloom profusely in alternate years. "Snowdrift" is rated to -30°F. The fruit tends to be somewhat persistent into winter, but the birds need a treat too. All are reasonably disease-resistant (including cedar apple rust) varieties, but there is no guarantee that they will always express that resistance. This information is specific for certain USDA hardiness zones and may not apply to your local conditions.
