Our Minnesota back yard butts up against a channel with grass growing to the water's edge. There has been some shoreline erosion, so we are considering adding a beach blanket. How should we proceed?

There are certain regulations that must be followed when dealing with shorelines. If you do not know whether this channel is overseen by the city, county, or state, first contact your city about local regulations. Many times you are not allowed to add sand or rocks to the shore, even though the intent is to discourage erosion.
