Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

We get a lot of standing water in our back yard. Last summer, I dug a 6-inch trench out to the street and it did a good job of draining the water quickly. Now I want to put in drainage pipe and cover it with grass. Do you have detailed information on how to create proper drainage?

I would recommend that you install a French Drain. You will need to install perforated flexible pipe over a bed of rock and make sure that there is adequate downward slope away from the pooling water to drain properly. Following is a Web site that will give you the instructions and materials you need: http://www.repair-home.com/how_to/create_a_french_drain.htm
