What is the average number of locks and seeds per lock in a cotton boll?

There are three to four locks that make up the average cotton boll. The average number of seeds per lock ranges from six to nine. The actual number can vary based on weather, environmental stress, and genetic predisposition. For example, during times of severe drought, there are often fewer seeds per lock produced.
