What does it mean to be culturally literate?

The term culturally literacy is giving way to the term cultural intelligence or CQ. Brooks Peterson in his book Cultural Intelligence: A Guide to Working with People from Other Cultures, proposed this tripod which many of us in the field of intercultural competence agree as a basic foundation – Knowledge about Cultures (facts and cultural traits) + Awareness (of yourself and others) + Specific Skills (Behaviors) = Cultural Intelligence
