Call your credit card company immediately. You should only be liable for up to $50 of the charge. They can work with you to set up a new account.

Some scam artists are telling people that this $50 limit is no longer in place and will try to sell you special "insurance." Do not buy this coverage! For any unauthorized charges, you will only be liable for $50.

Contact local and state authorities and file a report. This includes contacting local police and your state attorney general's office. Let them know what has happened. You may find that you are not alone and that others have fallen victim to someone's scam. You may want to consider putting a "freeze" on your credit report, which is a relatively new protection option. You can also report the incident to the National Fraud Information Center (1-800-876-7060).
