What foods are low in sodium?

Last Updated: January 29, 2008

View as web page

Natural foods, such as unprocessed fruits and vegetables, are low in sodium. Animal products contain more natural sodium. Processed and prepared foods (including restaurant foods) are most likely to contain added sodium.

Don’t assume that you can tell if a food is high in sodium by taste alone. Be sure to read the nutrition facts labels on packaged products. When eating at a restaurant, you can request that your meal is prepared without added salt.
