The number of children allowed in a family child care setting depends on your state's regulations. You can find individual child care licensing and registration rules for each state on the Better Kid Care America State Child Care Licensing Regulations page. If you have questions, contact your local child care licensing agency for guidance. You may also want to visit the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) to locate your local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (CCR&R). Most CCR&R programs have state-specific start-up information and support for family child care homes and child care centers, and may have a local office that can provide you with help and support.
