If I have traveled overseas, what do I need to do to avoid introducing a foreign animal disease into the United States when I return?

The steps you need to take are very simple. Tell the USDA or Customs agents in the customs area of the airport or other point of entry into the United States if you have been on a farm or had contact with livestock on your overseas visit; answer their questions accurately and honestly. They may disinfect some of your belongings, such as your shoes. Do not bring any meat or dairy products back to the United States with you. If you do have any, surrender them at customs. If you have been on a farm or in contact with farm livestock overseas, avoid contact with farm animals for five days after your return. Launder all clothing and footwear you took overseas.
