The controlled research does not show significant increases in milk production with cool water in the summer or warm water in the winter. Illinois dairy farmers report cows like warm water from surplus heat from the cooling of milk when they leave the parlor. If cows drink more water, they consume more dry matter, which is a win-win situation.
