Is it correct to feed calcium propionate (150 grams) 10 days prepartum to 10 days postpartum without drenching with propylene glycol for prevention of ketosis?

Feeding 150 grams of calcium propionate likely could help in a herd struggling with high rates of ketosis, but the amount of glucose provided is less compared to drenching with 8 to 12 ounces of propylene glycol (which also slugs the cow's blood with glucose via liver conversion causing an insulin response that prevents ketosis). The best choice is propylene glycol; the dry product is easier to feed and handle. Most research suggests little added value of feeding either propylene glycol or calcium propionate supplements if transition cow management is good.
