What should the average urine pH be of cows two weeks before calving if they are fed supplemental anions? What is the expected level of displaced abomasums (DAs)?

If you are using an anionic product (such as calcium chloride or Soychlor), the urine pH after four days of feeding to the close-up dry cows should be 6.2 to 6.6 for Holsteins and 5.5 to 6.0 for Jersey cows. Normal urine pH of cows not on specific anionic diets would be 8.0 to 8.2 units. The normal or expected level of DAs is 2 to 4 percent.
